Mount Rose Self-catering                guesthouse

The house

Mount Rose is rented out as a unit, not on a room-by-room basis. Therefore, even if you are only 2 people, you do not share the house with anybody else.

We consequently charge for a minimum of 2 people per night, with every additional guest charged on a per person basis, up to a maximum of 8 guests in total. There is no charge for pets.

A plus point is that the house has a double lock-up garage with access directly into the house, so your vehicles are secure and do not have to be parked in the sun and rain. Also, you do not get wet running from the car to the house! Clarens often has hail storms, which has the potential to damage your vehicle severely if not under cover. We think this convenience provides the extra value that you will notice in our rates compared to some other establishments.

The house has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and one guest toilet with a hand basin. The smallest bedroom has 2 single beds and they have to share a bathroom with the second-largest bedroom for showering. Every bedroom has been labelled with its own name and is provisioned as explained on the next page.

On this page you will find information and pictures of the living area, verandah, kitchen, garage and garden, as well as important info regarding babies, pets, and smoking.

Living area

The living area is open-plan, divided into lounge, dining and kitchen. As you enter the front door you first move through the dining area with a table seating 6 comfortably but capable of seating 8. There is also a sideboard where place mats, cushions and candles are stored.

Next is the lounge with three large couches, side tables, central coffee table and TV cabinet (bring your own DSTv decoder and cables). WiFi is free, and the access code is supplied in the house. There is a radio/CD player with a small selection of CD's.

The couches are arranged in front of a large wood-burning fireplace. Firelighters and matches are provided, and in winter, some wood. Books, magazines, information brochures and games are available in the living area.

Large double doors open from both the dining area and the lounge onto a spacious roofed verandah with unobstructed views of the Maluti mountains, Golden Gate peaks, Mount Horeb and the mountains in the Nature Reserve. A hexagonal patio table with 8 chairs are provided for guests to enjoy sundowners or alfresco meals (tablecloth in a drawer in the sideboard). There is a built-in braai (barbecue) with utensils in the kitchen drawers.

The large kitchen is equipped with double oven, 4 plate electric hob, microwave oven, kettle, 4-slice toaster, 2 coffee plungers, fridge/freezer combo, dishwasher and tumble dryer. The kitchen is provided with cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, and cooking and eating utensils. There is a selection of glasses. Although you do not get an actual welcome basket, the kitchen will be stocked with coffee (instant as well as grounds), tea, longlife milk, and sugar, as well as dishwashing liquid, cloths and scourers. Clarens sometimes runs out of water, so there are also a few 5 liter bottles of water next to the fridge for emergencies.

Garage

The double garage opens with a remote control and there are alarm touchpads in the garage as well as in the main bedroom (Peace). The code that deactivates the alarm will be provided in your letter or confirmation of the reservation or when you pick up the keys to the house. There is also parking for two more vehicles on the paving outside the garage. Notice the small red letterbox on the righthand pillar of the garage?

Garden

Except for the entrance to the garage, the rest of the garden is fenced or walled, with three gates. Keys to the gates are inside the house and enables you to take a short cut when walking to town. The garden is small but lush with roses.

Here you can see the devil's fork tops of the fence and get an idea of the gaps between the bars.

Pets

Small to medium dogs will enjoy the garden and will probably not be able to escape. Very large dogs may be able to jump over the fence but it is devil's fork and we have not had such an incident yet. Cats will definitely be able to squeeze through the gaps. Pets are welcome but not specifically catered for (there are some bowls, newspaper, and one pet blanket) and are brought to stay here completely at risk of, and under the responsibility of, the          Above is a photo of the paved backyard             pet-owner. We assume that pet-owners will control and                                                          protect their pets and also protect the property against damages caused by pets.

Babies

We do not cater for babies at all.

There are no facilities for bedding, feeding or bathing of babies, nor are there provision for handling of nappies. Should you wish to bring your baby, you need to provide everything yourself. Please do not leave the soiled nappies in the wastepaper baskets - it is most unpleasant for us when we come to clean, especially in summer.

Caution

Legislation prohibits smoking inside guest houses. Please smoke outside and take care to extinguish butts and matches. Clarens and surrounds are extremely fire-prone so please also make sure any coals or ashes in the fireplaces are completely extinguished before you leave it. There are fire-extinguishers inside the house, please ensure that you know how to use them should the need arise.

Emergency phone numbers are listed and pasted against the wall by the fireplace in the lounge.

The local doctor is on duty from about 09h00 to 13h00 and can be summoned by the staff at Paballo's nursing, but for serious illness or injury the nearest doctors and hospitals are in Bethlehem which is a drive of at least 20 minutes. There is a basic first-aid kit in one of the kitchen cupboards.

Other information

Information about restaurants, shops, hiking trails, services, etc. is available in the house.
